Return to Guernsey
I first visited Guernsey, Channel Islands in 1974 when I was 19, a chance holiday but a most memorable one. I'd always wanted to go back but the timing had never been right. I planned to take my sons when I got divorced aged 40 but I got ill with M.E/C.F.S so that put paid to those plans. It was an impossible dream, but you can never say never. My eldest son said, 'What about for your 70th?' Could we? I'd never flown but always wanted to. The ferry journey as it had been when I was young was out of the question, too long a journey for me with a health condition and with young children, but I'd love to fly. After numerous obstacles we made it! Here's how!

A lovely light read of someone celebrating their 70th year on this planet, with all its ups and downs. It culminates in a holiday she never dreamed she could do, well maybe she did dream about it but never imagined it would be possible! It shows a side of illness that folk in general often don't see but in a lighthearted way. It shows all the planning and preparation that has to go into the simplest of outings. The trip to Guernsey is relatable to anyone who has returned to visit somewhere from their youth with a nostalgic eye. We only glimpse into others lives that we see in passing, this tells the story.

Hi, just to let you know I enjoyed your book, Return to Guernsey, immensely. I was there at the same time as you, although I flew out the day after you for a week. Wasn't the weather glorious. I was lucky enough to go again in October for Tennerfest, Guernsey is very much my Happy Place.
